Song Of The Week: "Eleventh Hour" (Iconoclast)

With this post, Compilation Week begins. I've got four or five comps that don't suck in the posting-pipeline, so this SOTW showcases yet another band I discovered through this polarizing medium: Iconoclast (the "Ebullition" band). I can't say exactly why "Eleventh Hour" stands out to me so much on a comp that boasts Rorschach, Born Against, Greyhouse, Merel, Native Nod... At the time of purchase it floored me, and that's all there is to it. I heard mention that the version that appears on the band's Ebullition CD was an improvement because of the cleaner production. I disagree. The murky and ominous heaviosity of this original was central to its power. It proved that modern forms of hardcore could be emotionally riveting without being... namby-pamby. Anyway, this song's a crusher. Awesome drumming, too.

Update: The above track is now re-upped at mediafire. I'll go ahead and rip the rest of the comp later this week.

Hell yeah. This was the first song I heard by them too. Actually, I love that entire compilation. My girlfriend years ago had it on tape and that's how I fell in love with those bands. Later I ordered the LP, but it was a newer pressing and had the rerecorded version of the song on it. I was so bummed and I haven't heard the original in over ten years. I tried downloading the song here, but it says something about it being viewed too many times or something.

Darn it! That's what I get for using a free service. I'll upload it onto Mediafire late tonight. I should probably just post the whole comp.

cool. Greyhouse is another awesome band with pretty much zero web presence. I think they may have a myspace page that never gets updated. I managed to find about ninety minutes of music by them. I created my own sort of 2CD discography. The songs are in no particular order since I had no idea what order to put them in because most had no IDtag info. If your interested in hearing more from them I can upload it for you.

That'd be good. The dude at Blogged And Quartered did an amazing compilation of their stuff.

Seems pretty complete, but I can't say for sure. I thought they had only done a couple of EPs and whatnot and was surprised at how much they actually recorded!

Holy Shit! Thank you so much for pointing this out to me. My rips were in 128 kbps. This looks like pretty much everything I have by them except in much better quality. I might have a few songs that aren't on here, but I definitely don't have the live tracks. Rock on!

this is the raddest song from a rad band. a good trick is to throw an Iconoclast song when you're hanging around major ragers. they'll ask who it is and then you can surprise them.

Greyhouse is also fantastic!

You know how records often have those scratched in "secret messages" around the edge of the label? I'm trying to remember who, and I'll probably end up going through all of my 7"s, but I just remember one that said, "Fuck Iconoclast!" I remember thinking to myself, "Why? Those guys are good."

I wonder if they did mean THIS Iconoclast!? Maybe there was a falling-out kinda thing at a show or something?! You got me all curious, Ry. If you find out the band, do share!
