What Meaning You Live?!

It's a shame that Shikabane's full length, "Why Do You Live?" (Prank/Mangrove?, 2003) is out of print, and an even bigger shame if you don't have these tracks on your hard drive (there's a good chance you do, but just in case...). Building on the brooding thrash aggression of the last posted EP, the band added dirtier, more atmospheric production and more diverse songwriting to accompany their personal/philosophical lyrics (which are in English this time). Some of you may hanker for the raw power of their previous outings, especially during the acoustic and undistorted interludes; but I rather like the whacked out moodiness of this record and the "Ego And Desire" 7" quite a bit. As a matter of fact, this is easily one of my favorite Prank releases. Feel free to share your thoughts on the matter...

Hey, thanks for the comments Tyla(!). Your enthusiasm for this kind of hardcore is very refreshing!

Trying to catch up and all:

Shikabane is awesome indeed. Prior to this I only heard their 1997 7", 人間に生まるること難し・・・.
Thanks a lot for this, 人のために生きるか 自分のために生きるか, and the split with Agathocles!

As for that Tragedy song of the week post; I guess it really doesn't get much better in terms of melodic neocrust/whatever, but I don't think I'll ever be able to appreciate them like I appreciate HHIG. I try not to discriminate at all when it comes to music (punk especially), but after HHIG, Tragedy just felt kinda watered down, and I think I might feel that way 'cause of those melodic tendencies.
Maybe I do discriminate. D:

Hey Zmaj, thanks for catching up. On the topic of HHIG, etc., I agree up to the words "watered down." I will admit, though, that I've listened to the HHIG records a ton more times than any of the Tragedy ones.

I bought this Lp in a record store im Amsterdam last week. Shikabane is a band who ruled in every period of their existing despite their style changes.
Are they still around?
I´m still searching for a copy of their 1st 7".

Hey Robi,
I want to believe they're still around, but I don't know for sure. I found a copy of the first EP recently for cheap... the band is still obscure enough that you can avoid price inflation if you're lucky!
